“I enjoy the previously HN featured Microsoft Edit project immensely”

I haven't felt a lot of desire to code in Rust but I do now! Absolutely applaud this project - it's completely tugged on the retro nostalgia strings for my Turbo Pascal days. Also one of the reasons I enjoy the previously HN featured Microsoft Edit project immensely - https://github.com/microsoft/edit . Thank you OP

I don't need anything more than a simple text editor. Notepad worked fine for a long time, but the bloat is real. I tried a bunch of replacement editors, but none really scratched that Notepad itch. Surprisingly, I'm now a fan of MS Edit: https://github.com/microsoft/edit It's very simple and here's hoping they don't bloat this one out, too.

Been using Microsoft Edit [0] for a good while on my Mac (the homebrew formula got merged recently [1]) No syntax highlighting, but I love it for taking notes and maintaining my .plan files. The simple TUI interface is oddly calming [0] https://github.com/microsoft/edit [1] https://github.com/Homebrew/homebrew-core/pull/225837

“If you want simple plain text editor you have to use msedit”

It looks like, after Microsoft discontinued WordPad, they want to implement more features into Notepad. If you want simple plain text editor you have to use msedit[1]. [1] https://github.com/microsoft/edit

…ast an earlier, less bad, version of Notepad is still available on Win 11. There's just no icon or link to it, so you have to know it's there. It's C:\Windows\notepad.exe Also, for what it is worth, a new relative to EDIT.COM is now back, in almost its former glory, just not yet installed in every Windows by default: https://github.com/microsoft/edit
