Most nitter instances don't do anything to avoid legal trouble from X. They simply hope that X will not go after them. There are some instances which do put in effort to stay anonymous, and they usually do that with a Cloudflare tunnel to hide their server IP and by not posting any personal details online. For Reddit you can use Redlib ( https://github.com/redlib-org/redlib ), I host an instance at https://redlib.miningtcup.me/ and people also like https://safereddit.com/ .

“I just use redlib(hosted in docker or one of their public instances)[0]. It has the same "sort" that's used on the desktop site.”

When the app only shows posts that are more than 10 hours old even when sorting by "hot" and shoving down the algorithmic feed on the app's home page, how are people still using the app? Lately I've only been visiting a few subs that I'm interested in and keeping them open in safari with ublock; it's been a far better experience. This has drastically cut my reddit time now and if I do want to mindlessly scroll, I just use redlib(hosted in docker or one of their public instances)[0]. It has the same "sort" that's used on the desktop site. [0] https://github.com/redlib-org/redlib
“It isn't hard to run an instance, just park it next to your SearXNG [1], Invidious [2], Redlib [3],PeerTube, ... instances.”

The solution is to run your own instance, create a few accounts for it to use and put it behind a reverse proxy with basic auth. Hand out logins to a few people and it will remain useable. If you put your instance out in the open it will sooner or later end up temporarily blocked - I tried this for a few years, same results every time - but smaller instances remain useable. Redlib exists - https://github.com/redlib-org/redlib It has a few public instances - https://github.com/redlib-org/redlib-instances/blob/main/instances.md Seems to work decently well, I've seen it being linked to on HN.

There is Redlib[0], an open source alternative Reddit frontend, with many public instances[1], e.g. https://redlib.catsarch.com/ There is also LibRedirect[2] (or PrivacyRedirect, although I for one have no experience with that), a browser extension that automatically redirects reddit.com URLs to your Redlib instance of choice (it also does the same for other platforms, configurable).
