simulot/immich-go
An alternative to the immich-CLI command that doesn't depend on nodejs installation. It tries its best for importing google photos takeout archives.

I did google take out > immich and it maintained all meta data. I used https://github.com/simulot/immich-go
“I can confirm that this works really well.”

There's plenty of tutorials but you can request a Google Takeout of your photos and then point immich-go at it. I can confirm that this works really well. https://takeout.google.com/?pli=1 https://github.com/simulot/immich-go
“Fortunately immich-go can just pick up the import where it left of, so I kept re-running it until everything was imported.”

…om/simulot/immich-go This took a bit of tweaking to get the right set of command line args that worked well for what I wanted it to do. I also found immich errored out a few times during the import. Fortunately immich-go can just pick up the import where it left of, so I kept re-running it until everything was imported. *Cleaning it all up* If you just want a huge flat dump of your files your probably good. In my case there were various things I wasn't quite happy about. The default handling of stacking edited images with the originals in albums wasn't what I was after. I wanted to replicate sharing of albums with immich users to match what I had in google photos. For all this kind of clea…

There is a community-supported CLI program called immich-go that directly supports reading in iCloud and Google takeout archives, as well as local directories. It works great, and has gobs of import options to set up albums and tags. [ https://github.com/simulot/immich-go ]

…one that goes through the tunnel. The Immich mobile app supports internal/external connection settings – it uses the direct connection when connected to home wifi, and the tunnel when out and about. For uploading photos taken with a camera I either use immich-go ( https://github.com/simulot/immich-go ) or upload them through the web UI. There's a "publish to Immich" plugin for Adobe Lightroom which was handy, but I've moved away from using Lightroom.

Immich is really great, easily now my fav self-hosted app. I used the Immich CLI [0] and later Immich-go [1] to get all my photos in. That was a breeze. I set it to use the folders as albums... And now I have a lot of cleaning up to do, but other than with files and folders, I'm really enjoying the process! A poweruser tip that has helped me a couple of times: Use ZFS (or other snapshotting facilities) to make snapshot before making any changes/updates or doing large imports. It makes the whole thing sort of bullet proof and you can retry if you're not happy with some import flag. Immich had my old Corei3 server making a lot of noise for a couple of days btw! But, it's really good at facia…
“https://github.com/simulot/immich-go is what I used to import ~300gb of photos from Google Photos to Immich. Not sure how well it works for iCloud.”

You can import your iCloud photos into Immich. Immich itself is agnostic to the photos and mostly just operates on folders of files. https://github.com/simulot/immich-go is what I used to import ~300gb of photos from Google Photos to Immich. Not sure how well it works for iCloud. There is also https://ente.io/ which is a private & secure photo backup app that you don't need to self-host.

Runs on a Pi4 in a cabinet with a lot of other self hosted stuff. Data is stored on a NAS. Performance on the Pi4 isn't the greatest, but it works without any annoyance. It has been hosting my SO's and my photos for a few months, the transition from Google Photos was pretty easy and it is almost a drop in replacement. I love it. Make sure to checkout https://github.com/simulot/immich-go , it was a great help migrating my Google Takeout to Immich.
“Better in that case to import all the photos and let immich handle them moving forward using a tool like https://github.com/simulot/immich-go”

This is a good usage pattern if you're absolutely married to the file structure you have and/or want to keep using the files where they are. Not really applicable if what you have is a google takeout dump. Better in that case to import all the photos and let immich handle them moving forward using a tool like https://github.com/simulot/immich-go
